Reading:

This year, our school is piloting a new reading program called Into Reading. Modules 3rd graders will explore include:

  • What a Character!  (Character Studies)

  • Use Your Words (Words)

  • Let Freedom Ring (US History)

  • Stories on Stage (Drama)

  • Teamwork (Teamwork)

  • Animal Behaviors (Science)

  • Make a Difference (Community)

  • Imagine! Invent! (Science)

  • From Farm to Table (Science)

  • Tell a Tale (Cultural)

  • Genre Study- Non fiction

  • Genre Study- Literary Texts

Writing

In addtion to reading, the new pilot we are using includes a writing program as well. 3rd graders will focus on:

  • Personal/Narrative Writing 

  • Correspondence Writing/Letter Writing

  • Descriptive Essay

  • Argument/Persuasive Writing

  • Expository Writing

  • Opinion Writing

  • Research Writing

  • Poetry

  • Biographical Essays

Math

Our class will contine focusing on mathematical concepts that include place value, addition, subraction, division and multiplication; factors, fractions, measurement, comparison and equivalence, problem solving, decimals, angles, attributes and geometry. 

The biggest focus is on multiplication and division. All students must master facts 0-10 to ensure future math sucess.

Science 

 

Science Curriculum this year includes in depth studies of:

  • Forces and Interactions

  • Inheritance and Variations of Traits

  •  Weather and Climate

  • Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems
     

Social Studies


Social Studies Curriculum this year includes Regional Studies of:

  • Southeast

  • Northeast

  • Southwest

  • Northwest
